World Blogging Forum Vienna 2010

When I first announced the World Blog­ging Forum 2010, I specif­i­cally referred to it as “the first inter­na­tional blog con­fer­ence in Vienna”. Cor­rec­tion we fix: it’s actu­ally the 3rd one. Mar­tin Leyrer pointed out that in 2003/2004 Vienna hosted two blogtalk conferences.

Blogtalk 2010 takes place in Gal­way from 26–27 August. The first con­fer­ence in the pop­u­lar series was hosted at Danube Uni­ver­sity Krems at the Cen­ter for New Media. Rebecca Blood defined the term blog as follows:

What is a weblog? A weblog is a form and a for­mat: a fre­quently updated web­site con­tain­ing entries arranged in reverse-chronological order. But this sim­ple form is infi­nitely mal­leable, and weblogs have huge poten­tial for pro­fes­sional and pri­vate use. Eas­ily main­tained via com­puter or mobile devices, weblogs are orga­niz­ing busi­nesses, cre­at­ing and strength­en­ing social ties, fil­ter­ing the World Wide Web, and pro­vid­ing a plat­form for ordi­nary peo­ple to pub­lish their views to the world.

In 2004, more than 130 geeks from all over the world vis­ited BlogTalk 2.0 at Urania:

BlogTalk 2.0 is designed to ini­ti­ate a dia­log between blog­gers, devel­op­ers, researchers and oth­ers who share, enjoy and analyse the ben­e­fits of blog­ging. The focus is on weblogs as an expres­sion of a cul­ture that is based on the exchange of infor­ma­tion, ideas and knowl­edge. In the spirit of the free exchange of opin­ions, links and thoughts we wish to engage a wide range of par­tic­i­pants from the blo­gos­phere in this discourse.

I hope some of the blog-talkers will join WBF2010 — and sorry for my mis­take! I’m very happy though that we’re able to con­tinue the tra­di­tion of inter­na­tional blog­ger events in Vienna!
