BlogTalk Vienna 2003/2004

When I first announced the World Blogging Forum 2010, I specifically referred to it as “the first international blog conference in Vienna”. Correction we fix: it’s actually the 3rd one. Martin Leyrer pointed out that in 2003/2004 Vienna hosted two blogtalk conferences.

Blogtalk 2010 takes place in Galway from 26-27 August. The first conference in the popular series was hosted at Danube University Krems at the Center for New Media. Rebecca Blood defined the term blog as follows:

What is a weblog? A weblog is a form and a format: a frequently updated website containing entries arranged in reverse-chronological order. But this simple form is infinitely malleable, and weblogs have huge potential for professional and private use. Easily maintained via computer or mobile devices, weblogs are organizing businesses, creating and strengthening social ties, filtering the World Wide Web, and providing a platform for ordinary people to publish their views to the world.

In 2004, more than 130 geeks from all over the world visited BlogTalk 2.0 at Urania:

BlogTalk 2.0 is designed to initiate a dialog between bloggers, developers, researchers and others who share, enjoy and analyse the benefits of blogging. The focus is on weblogs as an expression of a culture that is based on the exchange of information, ideas and knowledge. In the spirit of the free exchange of opinions, links and thoughts we wish to engage a wide range of participants from the blogosphere in this discourse.

I hope some of the blog-talkers will join WBF2010 – and sorry for my mistake! I’m very happy though that we’re able to continue the tradition of international blogger events in Vienna!
